Description
Spottles is a probable late 15th century open hall-house consisting of four bays, with a two-bay hall, a service wing, and a solar that jetties over the hall. There is a modern gabled wing to the left. The building is one storey with attics and is timber-framed, featuring painted brick infilling. The square framing includes some warped timbers. The roof is hipped and tiled, with a large gablet. There are two gabled doors and three casement windows, along with simple doorcases. Although the roof has been renewed, some rafters show signs of being smoke blackened, indicating there was a smoke bay at one time. The chimney at the back of the building dates from the 18th century.
