Description
Laurel Cottage is a building that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 17th century and in modern times. Originally, it was a two-bay open hall. Likely in the late 16th century, the hall was divided to create a service room with a bedroom above, and a smoke hood was added. In the 17th century, an external chimneystack was introduced. The cottage is one storey with attics, constructed from timber framing with painted brick infilling and features long passing braces. It has a tiled roof, two casement windows, and an external brick chimneystack on the right side. A later gabled porch is located on the left side, and the roof has queen posts. The chimney breast includes open shelves for storing salt. The pathway leading to the cottage is made of Charlwood stone.
