Description

Lower House Farm House is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions and alterations from the 17th and 19th centuries. The building is timber framed, with the gable at the rear exposed and brick infilling. The main posts are visible on the ground floor to the left. The ground floor features whitewashed brick cladding on a sandstone block plinth, while the first floor to the right is tile hung, displaying bands of diamond point and fishscale patterns. The left-hand return front has brick quoined sandstone block cladding. The house has a T-shaped plan with a gabled cross wing to the right and 20th-century extensions at the right end and to the rear.

The entrance front faces the garden and is two storeys high, with end stacks on either side of the centre and a large main stack at the rear right of centre where it meets the wing. There is one large gabled dormer on the left of centre and a smaller dormer to the right. On the first floor, there is a 3-light 19th-century window on the gable and a through-eaves dormer on the first floor of the set-back right-hand extension. The ground floor features two large 19th-century windows to the left, one on the ground floor of the gable, along with smaller windows to the left of centre. A part-glazed door is located to the right of centre within an open, gabled porch. The ground floor is recessed to the right on the extension behind brick piers, with further double half-glazed doors.

At the rear, the main gable has jowled posts, herringbone brick infilling, and a roof covered with Horsham slabs. The rear also features irregular casement windows and a door to the right. Inside, there are substantial quantities of the frame exposed.
