Description
Mays Cottage is a cottage that dates back to the 17th century, with extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building has a timber frame, with the lower part clad in red brick on a stone plinth, and features fishscale tile hanging above. It has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high. On the left side, there is a notable 17th-century brick stack set on an offset, quoined, rubblestone plinth. The first floor has two leaded casement windows, while the ground floor has three windows beneath gauged brick heads. The entrance door is now located in the left-hand return front, within a 20th-century brick porch that has a pentice roof. The right-hand return front has an exposed frame with a tile-hung gable. There is also a 20th-century wing that extends at right angles to the rear. The cottage is included for its group value around the village green.
