Description
No. 21 Chapel Street is a house dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with a rear extension added in the 19th century. It has a timber frame that is clad in brick and finished with incised colourwashed render, topped by a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a 19th-century tile-hung dormer. On the first floor, there are two glazing-bar sash windows, one on the left and one on the right. The ground floor has a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front, which includes a tile pentice above and a dentilled moulded cornice. The shop window has an arched centre light and is a three-light design, with the upper part being leaded. To the right of the shop front, there is a panelled door that leads to a flanking alley. The left-hand return front shows a thin frame that is exposed under the tile-hung gable, with much of the timber being reused. The building was undergoing restoration at the time of the last survey.
