Description

Heath and Salter, Estate Agents is a cottage that has been converted into offices. It dates back to the 16th century or early 17th century and features an early 20th-century shop front. The building was restored around 1985. It has a timber frame that is covered in colourwashed render on the first floor, with shop fronts below. The roof is plain tiled and has been rebuilt on the left side. The structure is two storeys high, with three framed bays and a parallel range at the back. On the first floor, there are two leaded casement windows framed with architrave surrounds, and the ground floor has canted bay shop fronts with a glazed door in the center.

Inside, parts of the timber frame are now visible on the ground floor, including a stopped and chamfered spine beam, post framing with mortised and tenoned rail, and part of the rear ground floor wall on the northeast side. There is also a timber frame partition in the roof space. The roof is constructed from 16th to early 17th-century materials, featuring side purlins and windbraces. This building is the only remaining cottage from a former row of similar structures in an early post-medieval suburb and is located near an important group of listed buildings on the High Street.
