Description

210, 212, 214, and 216 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. The building features an early 19th-century front, which is built on an 18th-century or possibly older core. The front is made of red brick, with part of it painted on the ground floor, and it has a low-pitched slate and felt roof above. The building stands three storeys high over a basement, with deep bracketed eaves and stacks located on the left side.

The façade has three bays, with three large 9-pane glazing-bar sash windows on the second floor, which are set under gauged brick heads. The first floor has three 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows with old glass, also under gauged brick heads. On the ground floor, there is a plate glass shop front on the right and a 19th-century shop front on the left, which features a dentilled hood above and fluted pilaster strips flanking the main entrance. This entrance has a 4-centre arched light with a central oval above and floral carvings in the spandrels.

The central six-panel door is set in a deep recess with panelled reveals and has a bracketed hood supported by thin pilasters. There is roundel tracery in the over-light and iron railings flanking a flight of stone steps in front. Inside, the building has fielded panelling in the hallway and fielded-panel doors on the ground floor, with the original plan largely intact. Photographs of the building are available in the National Monuments Record.
