Description

The Church of St. Peter is a church located in West Molesey, built with a 15th-century tower and the rest of the church completed in 1843. The tower is constructed of ragstone and flint arranged in a chequerboard pattern, while the remainder of the church is made of yellow brick with stone dressings, topped with plain tiled roofs. The tower is three stages high and features battlements, with a stair turret on the southeast corner. The church includes a nave and a north aisle, with a south porch and chancel to the east. The nave has two-light windows with trefoil heads, while the top of the tower has two-light windows and lancet windows set in deep reveals. The west door, which is now disused, is arched and has a flat hood moulding with foliage carving in the spandrels. A 20th-century door is located in the south porch.

Inside, the church features a three-bay nave arcade supported by octagonal piers with moulded capitals. The roof is a hammer beam style with angel carvings. The tower and chancel arches are simply moulded.

The church fittings include 19th-century pews, a 15th-century octagonal stone font with quatrefoil panels, and a fine Jacobean pulpit made of panelled oak, complete with a back board and tester.

Monuments within the church include three brasses on the north chancel wall dedicated to Thomas Brende from 1564, featuring two shields above a rectangular inscription panel. On the south aisle wall, there is a monument to Admiral Hon. George Cranfield Berkeley from 1818, made of stone with a black ground and white stone inscription plate, drapery behind, and a coat of arms above.
