Description
Ruston is a building constructed between 1853 and 1855 by engineer Joseph Quick for the Southwark and Vauxhall Water Company. An additional western block was added in 1881-82 by JW, who later became Sir James Restler. The original section is a square, single-storey building made of gault brick, featuring round-headed windows and pilasters. A square tower is located at the center, which has two stages of arcading. The western part is two storeys high and includes similar architectural details, such as a lower rusticated basement with segmental-headed windows and a taller first floor with arcaded windows and pilasters. The building features cast-iron glazing bars throughout and has a stone balustrade on both the original and later sections.
