Description

Boathouse 4 is a Grade II listed structure built in 1916 by Augustine Alban Hamilton Scott for the Thorneycroft firm, which constructed fast launches for the Admiralty. It features a slipway that connects with Nos 1 and 2. The boathouse is timber-framed and clad in zinc sheeting, topped with a cambered roof. Due to the curved site, Boathouse 4 has a different frame design compared to Nos 1 and 2, consisting of upright posts on padstones, cross bracing at the top, and passing braces from the cross bracing to a Belfast truss. The building includes 15 bays with a central skylight and a bicycle crane. The riverside wall has a series of outward opening casements with handles, while the side features concertina doors. The wall frame is constructed with four tiers of midrails, and the roof has cross braces between the bays, with diagonal boarding.
