Description
Burwood Park School, originally a country house, dates from around 1810. It features incised render and a hipped slate roof, with rendered stacks on both sides. The building has two storeys and an attic, topped with a stone-coped parapet and a wooden cornice with dentils above the first floor. The façade consists of three bays, with set-back bays at each end. The windows are glazing bar sashes set within stone architrave surrounds, and there are moulded panels above the outer ground floor windows. A central attic window extends down to break into the cornice. The entrance has double three-quarter glazed doors in a panelled surround, sheltered by a Doric portico supported by four columns. Above the portico is a cornice with a band of guttae and a shallow copper gable or pediment. On either side of the main building are single-storey screen walls with curving quadrants leading to end piers, each with doorways framed in arched bays. The left-hand return front features six bays and a single-storey balustraded square bay projecting to the left.
