Description
No. 48 Oxford Street is a house, now functioning as a house and shop, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from squared and coursed limestone and features a gabled concrete tile roof, with an end stack made of stone and finished in late 19th-century brick. The building is designed in an L-plan with a rear right wing and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range.
The façade includes timber lintels above a late 19th-century beaded six-panelled door with an overlight, which leads to a through-passage on the left, as well as a more recent door. A late 19th-century square bay window is present, with flat stone arches over early 19th-century eight-pane sashes and a 20th-century light above the door. Hipped roof dormers are also featured.
Attached to the rear of the wing is a two-storey range that was formerly a bakehouse, built with similar materials and featuring two plank loft doors. Inside, there are lightly chamfered beams, although the first floor has not been inspected. The bakehouse range contains bakeovens at the center and a butt-purlin roof.
