Description

These are two houses located on the east side of Oxford Street, Woodstock, dating from around 1770. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with an ashlar front, and have a gabled stone slate roof with end stacks finished in late 19th-century brick. The houses follow a double-depth plan and are three storeys high with an attic.

The front is symmetrical with a six-window range. To the right is a keyed stone lintel above an early 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight, along with horned six-pane sash windows. To the left is a similar stone lintel above a 20th-century door with an overlight, paired with similar sash windows and mid-to-late 19th-century plate-glass first-floor sashes. A deeply-coved cornice runs along the top of the building, and there are four hipped roof dormers in the attic. The interior has not been inspected. The houses were described as "new" in 1779, built on the site of the former Globe Inn, as recorded in historical documents.
