Description

The houses at 43 and 45 Oxford Street date from the late 17th century. They are built of coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled concrete tile roof and Welsh slates to the rear, and have brick end stacks. Number 43 is a one-unit plan building. It is two storeys and an attic high, with a single window range. The ground floor features a 20th-century door with a timber lintel, and a late 19th-century two-pane sash window above, also with a concrete lintel. There is a gabled dormer in the roof. Inside, you’ll find chamfered beams and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. Number 43, to the left, is a late 18th or early 19th century three-storey house constructed of similar materials, with a 20th-century shop front. The first floor of this section is part of the original plan for Number 45.
