Description
The Mermaid Inn and attached mounting block is an inn located on Burford and Upton High Street, with origins dating back to an early site and remodelling in the 17th century. The building underwent alterations and restoration in the 1930s. It is constructed of rubble and features a steep-pitched slate roof in a Tudor style. The inn has two storeys and an attic, with two gabled dormers. There are three windows, with the outer windows being three-light and the inner window a two-light mullioned type, dating from the mid-20th century. On the ground floor, there are two angled bays with parapets and mullion and transom windows from the 20th century, flanking a central arched doorway from the 14th century. Outside, next to the right-hand window, there is a worn mounting block. The interior features close spaced joists in the ceiling.
