Description
No. 64 High Street is a building that consists of two cottages which have been converted into a showroom. It dates from the 16th or 17th century and was remodeled in the 20th century. The front is timber-framed and is flanked by rubble side piers, with some plaster and partly exposed 20th-century timbers. The roof is made of Cotswold stone, and there is a 20th-century chimney on the right side. The building is one storey high with an attic garret. Notable features include a wall plate of considerable size and a chamfered member below it.
The shop front is a lean-to projection built on a rubble base, featuring a wide central entry with a raised hipped roof, all covered with stone. The construction of the shop front includes recycled timber, which is believed to be from telegraph poles, though it could also be former boat masts. Inside, there is a raised ceiling, and while the roof structure was not inspected, there is said to be a Tudor arch fireplace concealed in the south wall, despite the chimney stack being located in the north wall. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
