Description

This is an 18th-century house with shop premises, located on the High Street in Burford and Upton. The front of the building is constructed of freestone with a Cotswold stone roof. It is two storeys and an attic high, built over a cellar. A gabled dormer window is located to the left, with a chimney on the right. The upper floor has two windows, featuring glazing-bar sash windows. On the ground floor, a central 20th-century glazing-bar shop window projects outwards. Alongside this is a glazing-bar sash window to the left and a half-glazed door beneath a lean-to roof extended to the right from the shop front. An archway within the shop appears to be of probable mediaeval origin. The shop front steps forward slightly from the adjoining building to the north, revealing a section of timber-frame construction. Inside, a chamfered stone fireplace with a square head dates to the 17th century, situated on the south side. A blocked corner fireplace is present on the north side.
