Description

The Cotswold Arms Inn is an inn that likely has historical significance. It dates from the late medieval period and the late 17th century, although the front was remodeled in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of irregular rubble with a Cotswold stone roof and has an L-shaped plan. Originally, it was built as one with the premises to the north and has two storeys.

The front features two windows with glazing-bar sashes; one is centrally located on the first floor, while the left-hand window has a timber lintel and angled glazing below, also with glazing-bar sashes. There is a notable Tudor arch doorway to the left, which is actually positioned under the right-hand window of the adjacent premises to the south. This doorway has a deep moulded surround with enriched spandrels. Additionally, there is a good early to mid-19th century Gothick door with bowtel mouldings in the tracery. On the first floor to the right, there is evidence of a blocked mullion window.

The gabled return facing Priory Lane has mullioned windows and consists of two storeys and an attic, featuring two-light mullion windows in the attic and first floor, along with a plain doorway to the right. To the left, there is a two-storey extension with a 1:3 window arrangement, where the left side has mullioned windows with drips and a five-light window on the ground floor, while the right side contains mid-19th century sashes, although the ground floor has been altered. There is also a further lower extension with a three-bay roof structure that has been partially restored, featuring braces and possibly representing a 16th-century cottage converted for stable use.

The interior has been altered, with the rear extension containing a wide elliptical-headed fireplace on the ground floor, which is partly blocked.
