Description
Caroline Jane is a house and shop located on Burford and Upton High Street, built as one with the Cotswold Arms, suggesting it may have originally been part of an inn. The building dates from the late medieval period, with a late 17th-century freestone front and a roof made of Cotswold stone, featuring an exposed wall-plate. It has two storeys and an attic, with two gabled dormers.
On the first floor, there are four rebated mullion windows with drips, and to the left, there is a two-storey angled bay that has a drip-cornice on the first floor and a chamfered recess for a wider ground floor, which also features a cornice. The ground floor includes tripartite glazing-bar sashes in the center, and the entire bay stands on a moulded plinth, making it a notable feature.
To the right of the center, there is a 20th-century door set in a lightly chamfered Tudor arch doorway, topped with a bracketed 20th-century stone hood. The fine Tudor archway to the right is part of the Cotswold Arms.
