Description
The forecourt walls, railings, gates, and alleyway gateway of the Methodist Church date from around 1720 to 1730. They are made of wrought iron and feature ashlar plinth walls that are raised to follow the slope of the ground. The walls have rounded returns to the Classical building on the north side and to the alleyway on the south side. The wall includes a moulded plinth and buttress panels beneath the panelled standards of the railings. The layout consists of a 1:2 entrance and 2:1 bays, with arrowhead railings and scroll-work panels that include overthrows. Each end has shaped finial standards. The central entrance features elaborate hinge and plate panels along with a linking overthrow, and the gate has an arched upper rail. The archway to the alleyway, which connects the entrance railings to the former Chapel House on the right, is rusticated and includes pilasters and an elliptical arch with a keystone.
