Description
Prospect Books and Prints, now Witney Town Council offices, is a building that originally served as a house and dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring an early 19th-century stucco front and a gabled stone slate roof. The building has a tall late 17th-century brick ridge stack with a drip course.
The structure has a four-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a five-window range. The upper storey has late 18th-century to early 19th-century six-pane sash windows, while the ground floor consists of 20th-century shop fronts. The rear of the building is made from similar materials and includes a ridge stack that is stone finished in brick, along with paired early 19th-century sashes.
Inside, the left side features inferior cased beams, while the right side has chamfered and quartered beams, along with a cambered tie-beam. The rear range includes a stop-chamfered beam and a remodelled open fireplace on the right.
