Description
Barclays Bank, located at No. 30 in Witney Market Square, is a town house that has been converted into a bank, dating from around 1830 to 1840. The building is finished in stucco over limestone rubble, featuring raised chamfered quoins and stone dressings. It has a gabled roof covered with Welsh slate and brick stacks at both ends. The structure stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical four-window arrangement.
Above the double-leaf panelled doors, which are adorned with a decorative fanlight, there is a bracketed broken pediment. To the left of the entrance, horned six-pane sash windows are set within moulded semi-circular arched architraves, while the first floor has six-pane sashes and the second floor features shorter sashes, all within moulded stone architraves. A raised band runs along the upper storey, and there is a moulded stone cornice beneath the parapet. The interior and rear of the building have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
