Description
The Town Hall in Witney, built around 1770-1780, is a notable example of mid Georgian architecture. Constructed from limestone ashlar, it features a stone-coped gabled stone slate roof and a rear lateral stack. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The meeting room showcases six-pane sash windows set in raised architraves, positioned above an open loggia supported by Tuscan columns, with a blocked arch to the left. The façade includes raised pilaster strips and a storey band above the ground-floor rusticated pilaster strips. The right end of the building has a pedimented design with a sash window above a two-bay loggia. At the rear, there is a lean-to with a sash window situated above double-leaf panelled doors, which are framed by a heavy keyed and blocked architrave.
