Description

This building consists of a cottage and an attached barn, located approximately 35 meters northeast of Brookend House. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The structure is made of regularly coursed and dressed marlstone rubble, topped with an asbestos sheet roof featuring coped verges on the left gable end.

The cottage is on the left, with the barn, seemingly built at the same time, attached to the right. The cottage is one storey high with an attic. It features a 19th-century casement window on the left and a half-glazed door set in a chamfered Tudor-arched doorway on the right. To the right of the doorway is an elliptical arch with plank double doors. The cottage also has three gabled eaves dormers and an integral brick end stack on the left. At the rear, there are two 2-light mullion windows and a lean-to on the left.

The barn has a wide entrance with 20th-century sliding doors in the center bay and an opposing gabled cart entrance at the rear. There are triangular and narrow rectangular air vents on the gable end. The interior of the cottage could not be inspected during the last survey in August 1987, but it was noted to have two chamfered cross beams on the ground floor. The barn features a collar and tie beam roof in three bays, with the left truss renewed above the tie beam and 20th-century purlins and rafters. There are inserted lofts in the left and right bays and a stone threshing floor. This building is included for its group value.
