Description
Grove Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features regularly coursed and dressed marlstone rubble with quoins extending to the gable ends, and stone slate roofs with coped verges. The building has an L-plan layout, with a lower gabled addition from the late 18th century attached to the rear. It stands two storeys high with an attic.
On the first floor, there are three 3-light chamfered mullion windows, with a 20th-century two-light mullion window positioned between the left and central windows. The ground floor has original mullion windows on the far left and right, consisting of two and three lights respectively, along with a 20th-century mullion window where an opening has been infilled to the right of the original windows. The central entrance is flanked by late 20th-century mullion and rectangular windows that replace earlier casements. The roof features four irregularly spaced gable dormers, with the inner two added in the late 20th century.
There are integral ashlar end stacks, with the left stack having a dripstone and moulded capping, while the right stack has been rebuilt above the dripstone. The rear range contains further original and 20th-century mullion windows, along with an integral ashlar end stack.
Inside, the farmhouse has been significantly altered in the late 20th century. It retains chamfered ceiling beams in the ground and first-floor rooms, and there are three open stone fireplaces on the ground floor, with the fireplace in the right room featuring a projecting keystone. A 20th-century single-storey flat-roofed addition at the rear is not considered of special architectural interest.
