Description
Wrights Cottage is a cottage and former barn, likely built in the early 18th century, with significant alterations. It features whitewashed brick and sandstone construction, topped with a corrugated iron roof that was originally thatched. The cottage is two storeys high and has one window, with a gable facing the lane. It has flush quoins and a boarded door set in a skewback cambered opening. A small-pane casement window is located under a similar arch, while a small-pane horizontal sliding sash window can be found in the front bedroom and in the gable end of the rear bedroom. To the left of the door, there is a large, low, battered sandstone buttress. The gable is adorned with cyma kneelers, and a brick chimney is positioned immediately behind the gable coping. At the rear, there is a high stone wing wall alongside the road. The barn features a one-metre flush stone plinth at the rear, with brown brickwork above, double doors beneath a timber lintel, and two rows of three loophole vents. There are no internal features of special interest noted. The cottage that shares the same roof at the rear of the barn is not included in this listing.
