Description

Eynsham War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1921, with the architect remaining unknown. It features a granite wheel-headed cross adorned with a bronze reversed sword on its front face. The cross is mounted on a tapering shaft, which stands atop a square plinth and two stepped bases.

The front face of the plinth displays the main dedication: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND / IN PROUD MEMORY OF / THE FOLLOWING OFFICERS / NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS / AND MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918 / “DYING AND BEHOLD WE LIVE” / (NAMES) / AND 1939 – 1945." The names of the fallen are inscribed on the two sides of the plinth and on the front faces of the steps.
