Description
The Snarestone War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1922. It is made from Cornish granite and is situated in a long, narrow memorial garden, which can be accessed from the south side of Main Street. The memorial stands at the southern end of the garden, at the head of the central path.
The memorial features a rough-hewn wheel cross that is approximately 3 meters tall, mounted on a plinth with rounded upper corners and a flat front face that includes a recessed inscription panel. This plinth rests on a three-stepped concrete base. The inscriptions on the plinth are incised and filled with black lettering.
The main inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 (NAMES) THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." In front of the memorial, there is a single step with an inscription that states: "A PLACE OF REMEMBRANCE."
