Description
Snarestone Endowed School is a cottage that has been converted into a school, dating from around 1700. It is constructed of red brick, featuring brick eaves, a dentilled band, and a plain tile roof with a rebuilt central ridge stack. The building has a five-window range with two and three-light casements, most of which have cambered lintels. There have been some alterations, including a 19th-century door with a flat lintel and two windows on the left end. A 19th-century extension is located at the right end, which is of lesser interest, and a large 20th-century extension covers part of the rear. The main features include the door and two-light casements, as well as an inglenook and beams inside. The cottages and garden were given to the village in 1717 by Thomas Charnell to establish a school, library, and master's house, as noted in White's Leicester and Rutland from 1846.
