Description

WOOTTON DORNFORD SP42SW 3/311 Stable approx. 3m SW of Lower Dornford Farmhouse GV II Stables. C17, possibly with earlier origins. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roof. One storey and loft. Front has timber lintels over C20 stable door with overlight, and C20 window to right; flat stone arches over window openings flanking door; gabled loft door above. Late C19 shelter shed attached to front left. To rear are 2 blocked C17 chamfered stone-mullioned 2-light windows and similar 4-light window with 2 mullions removed. Interior: stop-chamfered beams. 4-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. Evidence of a former through-entry suggests that building may have functioned as a barn before its conversion into a stable in the C17.
