Description
This stable, located approximately 3 meters southwest of Lower Dornford Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and may have earlier origins. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof. The building is one storey high with a loft. The front has timber lintels above a 20th-century stable door with an overlight, and a 20th-century window to the right. There are flat stone arches over the window openings flanking the door, and a gabled loft door above. A late 19th-century shelter shed is attached to the front left. At the rear, there are two blocked 17th-century chamfered stone-mullioned two-light windows and a similar four-light window with two mullions removed. Inside, the stable has stop-chamfered beams and a four-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. There is evidence of a former through-entry, suggesting that the building may have originally functioned as a barn before its conversion into a stable in the 17th century.
