Description
Parrotts is a house dating from circa 1700. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof and a brick ridge stack. The house has a two-unit lobby-entry plan with an early 18th century extension and a rear wing to the right. It is two storeys high, with a symmetrical five-window front. A flat stone archway sits above a 20th-century door, flanked by carved brackets supporting a shell hood. The early 18th century has wood-mullioned and transomed cross windows with flat stone arches above. Two windows on the first floor are blocked, and there is a mid-19th century horned eight-pane sash window to the left. The two-storey bay to the right also has flat stone arches above a 20th-century three-light casement and a similar early 18th century cross window on the first floor. A stone stack is finished in brick at the end of the bay. The rear wing is one storey high with an attic, and a later outshut with a pantile roof adjoins it to the right. The rear of the main range features two similar early 18th century cross windows on the first floor, and early 19th century eight-pane sash windows.
Inside, the main range has early 18th century panelled doors and moulded stone fireplaces. A fine open-well staircase is located in front of the stack, featuring turned balusters on a closed string, turned finials, and perdentives to the newels, with a dog-gate leading to the cellar. The wing to the right has chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and a quarter-turn staircase. The roof is a butt-purlin roof.
