Description

Parrotts School is a school building located on Wootton Church Street. The building on the right has an inscribed tablet that reads "GIRLS SCHOOL/FOUNDED/1836". It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with a moulded stone stack at the right end. The structure is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It has timber lintels above 19th-century two-light leaded casements, which include small iron opening lights.

The building on the left has an inscribed tablet that reads "PARROTTS SCHOOL/ENDOWED/1788/BUILT 1835". It uses similar materials but has a brick stack at the end. This section is one storey high with a three-window range, featuring stone lintels over three-light chamfered wood-mullioned windows. The left bay has a stone lintel over a 20th-century window above a 20th-century door set in a chamfered stone surround. There is also a late 19th-century rear wing with a large stone lateral stack.

The school was endowed with an income of £61 per annum from Parrott's charity established in 1788, and later by Reverend Charles Lee, who built the Girls School and provided for the education of six girls through the construction of School Cottages and Balliol Cottage as part of the endowment. The building is included for its group value.
