Description
Rectory Cottage is a house built in 1728, as indicated by the datestone, and extended in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels and features a concrete plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The building has a three-unit plan with a rear wing and a large addition, standing two storeys plus an attic.
The front of the house has three windows, all featuring 20th-century casements except for one altered ground-floor window on the right, which contains a 12-pane sash. The central window likely served as the entrance. The datestone, which has a straight moulded hood, is inscribed "F/WE/MDCCXXVIII". The roof is adorned with gable parapets and projecting moulded kneelers.
The lower rear wing, which returns on the left, may be contemporary with the original construction. The large 20th-century range to the right is not of special architectural interest. The rear of the building now serves as the entrance front. The interior has not been inspected. Rectory Cottage is included for its group value.
