Description

The Old Rectory is a late 17th-century rectory, now functioning as a house, which likely incorporates earlier elements and was extended around 1800. It is constructed from coursed squared marlstone and features roofs made of Welsh slate and concrete plain tiles, with ashlar gable stacks. The building has a double-depth plan with added wings and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a basement.

The front of the main range is symmetrical with three windows, a moulded plinth, and a first-floor string. It features a central doorway topped with a triangular wooden pediment on consoles, which partially covers a blocked overlight. The windows have flat arches and contain renewed 18-pane sash windows. The basement windows are stone-mullioned and located in the plinth. The left end wall has oval stair windows and an additional sash window. The rear of the building has renewed sashes and a central seven-sided conservatory, dated 1810, with a lead roof. The double-span roof has gable parapets with triangular copings and includes three dormers on both the front and rear.

To the right, there is a two-storey wing, and to the left, a single-storey kitchen wing, both set back from the front and featuring sashes at the rear. Inside, there is an oak dog-leg stair with heavy turned balusters and a moulded handrail, along with a subsidiary winder stair leading to the attic. The early 18th-century drawing room is panelled, and all floors have chamfered beams, some heavy plaster cornices, and much 18th-century joinery. In the cellar, there are remains of a moulded stone doorway, likely from the 16th century.
