Description
16 and 18 West End is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a front that has been rendered in the 19th century. It features a gabled roof covered with concrete tiles and has brick stacks at each end.
The layout consists of three units and the building stands two storeys high with a five-window range. There are plank doors leading to a central through-entry, a plank door with an overlight on the right, and a mid-19th century half-glazed door set within a moulded wood architrave, topped with a flat hood supported by console brackets on the left. To the right, there is a 20th-century window, while the mid to late 18th-century windows are six-pane sashes. The building also has two gabled roof dormers featuring mid-19th century horned sashes.
At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension on the right side and a late 18th-century two-storey wing on the left, made from similar materials, which also has a 20th-century extension. Inside, the property has chamfered beams and a collar-truss roof with butt purlins, although some collars have been removed.
