Description
39A and 39B are two houses located on Market Street in Witney Market Square. The house at 39A, which is to the left, dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of coursed limestone rubble. It features a gabled artificial stone slate roof and has end stacks made of stone finished in brick. The building has a two-unit plan, is two storeys high, and has a three-window range. There is a 20th-century gabled porch, and timber lintels above 20th-century casements. The interior has a remodelled open fireplace.
The house at 39B, to the right, dates from the 17th century, with a late 18th-century front range built from similar materials and brick end stacks. It has an L-shaped plan with a rear right range, is also two storeys high, and has a two-window range. There are timber lintels over a 20th-century door and late 19th-century three-light casements. To the right, there is an early 19th-century one-storey bay made from similar materials. At the rear, there is a one-storey range with a half-hipped roof, constructed from similar materials. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
