Description
The Fleece Hotel is an early 19th-century hotel located on Church Green in Witney. It is constructed from limestone rubble with a stucco front featuring raised quoin strips and has a gabled stone slate roof with a brick lateral stack at the rear. The building is L-shaped, with a rear left range, and consists of two storeys and an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-window facade.
There is a wrought-iron balcony rail above a 20th-century door, which is accompanied by an overlight and flanking canted bay windows with sash windows. The first floor features six-pane sash windows, and there is a 20th-century gabled roof dormer. To the right, there is a similar two-storey, three-window range that includes a carriage entry and six-pane sash windows.
At the rear, the building has ranges made from similar materials, including a two-storey service range that was extended around 1830 with another two-storey, three-window range, which has flat stone arches over a 20th-century door and casement windows. Inside, there are 19th-century features, including dog-leg stairs with stick balusters leading to the rear.
