Description
The Elms Day Centre is a house dating from the mid 17th century, with a front dated 1859. It is constructed of roughly squared limestone rubble, with squared and coursed stone to the front, and has a stone-coped gabled stone slate roof and stone end stacks. The building follows a double-depth plan and features a mid 19th century front in a Jacobean style. It is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front, including a gabled bay on the right. The central door is set within a pointed, chamfered doorway, with a raised architrave featuring a shaped gable and a quatrefoil in the tympanum. Flat stone arches are above the plate-glass sash windows, and there is a canted bay window on the right. Shaped gables are present on the right gable and to a half-dormer on the left. The rear elevation is double-gabled and has hood moulds above 17th century three-light stone-mullioned windows with a cavetto mould, a former stair-light, and a similar mid 19th century two-light window. A 20th century single-storey extension is present to the rear. Internally, the house has mid 19th century features, including a staircase with a cast-iron balustrade. The building is included on the list for group value.
