Description
St Mary’s School is a building dating from circa 1860, located on Church Green in Witney. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, featuring a gabled stone slate roof with concrete tiles to the left range, and a stone end stack. The building is arranged in an L-shape with a rear left range. It is designed in a Gothic Revival style.
The front of the building consists of a single-storey, gabled section with a five-window range. A gabled porch is present, featuring a blank shield set in a quatrefoil above a Caernarvon-arched doorway. The porch adjoins the gable end of the left wing, which has a three-light stone-mullioned and transomed window with trefoil heads. To the right, two-light stone-mullioned windows are set within gabled half dormers, above mullioned and transomed two- and three-light windows. A narrow gabled central bay contains a lancet window and a pointed arched doorway.
The long, thirteen-window rear range has stone-mullioned and transomed windows, including one with trefoil heads in the central gable and lancets flanking pointed doorways. The interior of the building was not inspected.
