Description

Hayman House is a house located in Bampton, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with an ashlar front and features a stone slate roof with brick chimneys at the gables and rear. The building has a T-plan layout, is two storeys tall with an attic, and consists of three bays. Notable architectural details include a projecting plinth, chamfered quoins, and a band course at the first floor.

The central entrance features a half-glazed door framed in wood, topped by a flat wooden hood supported by shaped stone brackets. The outer bays contain pairs of boxed three-pane sash windows, with the ground floor windows having slightly segmental stone arches. The first floor has a single sash window in the centre, and all first floor sashes are fitted with wooden lintels. There is a mid-19th century canted bay window between the right bays, which was formerly used as a shop and includes glazing bars. The attic features two gabled roof dormers with three-light wooden windows.

An early to mid-19th century extension is attached to the left end of the house, which covers a vehicle entry. The first floor of this extension is rendered and has a tripartite sash window, with double board doors below. The rear of the house includes a small hipped wing at the centre and a door in a gabled chimney projection on the left side.

Inside, the centre bay features a chamfered spine beam with moulded and shaped stops. The front of the house is adorned with late 19th century cast iron railings that have small fleur-de-lys finials, along with a matching gate.
