Description
Rutland House is a house located on Buxton Road in Bakewell, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It features a coursed sandstone facade with ashlar dressings and rubble limestone, topped with roofs made of Welsh slate, concrete tile, and stone slate.
The building has three storeys and a three-window range, with a rear left corner wing and a single-storey wing extending beyond. The symmetrical facade includes raised quoins and projecting stone sills for the sash windows, which have glazing bars. The central entrance is a six-panel door, with the top four panels glazed, set within a moulded stone architrave that has a cornice. The outer bays contain paired sashes in renewed surrounds with stone mullions, while single sashes are present on each floor above. The gable copings are finished with plain kneelers and feature ashlar end stacks with bands.
On the left side, the rear wing projects, and there is a small lean-to at the angle with the main gable. A glazed door is located beneath a full-height stair window, which consists of four vertically-aligned casements with glazing bars, set in transomed square-faced surrounds. The interior has not been inspected.
