Description
The railed wall and gates to Rutland Terrace, located on Buxton Road in Bakewell, date from the early 19th century. This retaining wall is constructed from very deeply-coursed punched gritstone and features iron railings and gates. It supports the ground in front of Rutland Terrace and includes gate openings for each house, with slight projections at the terrace pilasters. The end piers are complemented by return walls, and the wall is topped with moulded copings. The plain railings have barbed finials, and the standards are adorned with vase finials. The gates match this style, although the far left gate is missing, and there are railing divisions that separate the front gardens.
