Description
Gateway Stores is a shop and dwelling that dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The ground floor is rendered and colourwashed from the 20th century, while the upper storey is made of semi-dressed limestone. The roof, also from the 20th century, is covered with plain tiles and features flanking brick chimneys. The building has two storeys and two bays, with a projecting plinth and a rendered band course at the first floor sill level.
On the first floor, there are three-pane sash windows with slightly chamfered wooden lintels. The ground floor openings were renewed in the 20th century, with each bay featuring a bowed shop window made up of 4 x 6 panes, topped with a moulded wooden cornice, and a semi-circular arched doorway to the left. Both doorways have radiating fanlights; however, the left door is recessed, and the centre door is a 20th-century half-glazed design. The building originally had semi-circular stone hoods over both doors, which have since been removed, as have the dormer windows. The building is included for its group value.
