Description
Barclays Bank is a former shop with a dwelling above, now used as a bank. It dates from the late 18th century and has been altered in the early to mid-19th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with a stone slate roof and has flanking brick chimneys. It is two storeys tall with an attic and features four bays. The first floor has mid-19th century two-pane boxed sash windows with slightly chamfered wooden lintels. There are two hipped roof dormers that contain paired wooden casements. The ground floor showcases an early to mid-19th century ashlar colonnade, which has a plain frieze supported by Doric columns and piers. Behind the colonnade is a 20th-century bank front with three-light windows flanking a central door. A long rear wing of various builds extends from the main structure.
