Description
The Romany Inn is a former house and shop that now operates as a small hotel. It dates from the early 19th century and features a limestone ashlar front with coursed rubble side and rear walls. The building has a hipped Welsh slate roof, with ashlar chimneys located at the center and right, and a white brick chimney on the left. It has a square plan and stands three stories tall with three bays.
The exterior includes a projecting plinth and band courses. The upper stories are adorned with three-pane sash windows set in recessed surrounds, with the central first-floor bay featuring French doors that lead to a balcony. The ground floor showcases canted bay windows with sashes in the outer bays; the left bay is made of ashlar with recessed window surrounds and a parapet, while the right bay has been largely reconstructed in the 20th century and is mostly wooden.
At the center of the ground floor is a large former shop window with 20th-century glazing bars, flanked by doorways in recessed surrounds. The left doorway has a flush panelled door and a blind fanlight, while the narrower doorway to the right is blocked. A porch spans the entire front of the central bay, supported by stone Doric columns and entablature blocks, with a wooden cornice and a balcony above that features early 19th-century cast iron railings.
