Description

CLANFIELD MAIN ROAD SP2801-2901 (West side) 8/32 Former stables approx. 15m SW of Windmill House GV II

Stables, now disused. Probably early-to mid C17 with minor later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof. One storey and attic. 4 doorways, 2 to left under plain stone lintels, that to right of centre with wood lintel and right mutilated. Roundel immediately to right of 2 left doorways. 2 eaves hatches, left gabled and right flat-roofed. Later lower gabled addition attached to right gable end. Datestone "HC/..3." to left gable end. Interior. Chamfered cross-beams and joists with floors removed. Double-purlin roof in 5 bays with slightly curved principals from tie-beams; collars. [2326]
