Description

The Old Post Office is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-17th century and was remodeled in the late 19th century. The building features roughcast over original timber framing above colourwashed late 19th-century brick, with similar brick used on the sides and rear. It has a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The layout consists of three units and the building is two storeys high with a three-window range. There is a 20th-century door flanked by shop windows, and timber lintels over 20th-century casements. The roof is gabled with a stack at the left end. Inside, there is a timber-framed wall that has been plastered over to the right of the door. The right and centre rooms have a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists. The stack on the left was rebuilt in the late 19th century, during which the original moulded bressumer was reversed and reset. The roof structure includes queen posts with clasped purlins and wattle and daub infill.
