Description

SHELLINGFORD FERNHAM ROAD (South side) SU39SW Wood store, bakehouse and 5/209 attached wall approx. 5m. S of Sands Farmhouse

GV II

Woodstore, bakehouse and wall. Late C18. Coursed Limestone rubble, brick dressings; stone slate roof to front, asbestos sheet to back; brick stack. Single unit plan. One storey. Segmental brick arch over plank door; timber lintel over late C19 casement to left. Gabled roof; left end stack. Projecting bread oven with stone slate roof in left gable wall, and segmental brick arches with brick jambs to blocked loft and ground floor openings. Interior: Wood bressumer and brick jambs to fireplace in left wall; half loft to right. Subsidiary features: Limestone rubble wall with C19 plank door connects above building to farmhouse. Running straight back from the rear left wall of this building is a Flemish bond brick wall with limestone coping and regularly spaced pilaster buttresses, and incorporating a late C19 privy; after approx. 20m wall is ramped to a lower level and returned to enclose garden; pyramidal capped pier in the right corner.
