Description

The wood store, bakehouse, and attached wall located approximately 5 meters south of Sands Farmhouse date from the late 18th century. The structure is built of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings, featuring a stone slate roof at the front and an asbestos sheet roof at the back, along with a brick stack. It has a single unit plan and is one storey high. The front has a segmental brick arch over a plank door, and to the left, there is a late 19th-century casement window with a timber lintel. The building has a gabled roof with a stack at the left end.

Notable features include a projecting bread oven with a stone slate roof on the left gable wall, and segmental brick arches with brick jambs that indicate blocked loft and ground floor openings. Inside, there is a wood bressumer and brick jambs around the fireplace in the left wall, and a half loft to the right.

Additionally, there is a limestone rubble wall with a 19th-century plank door that connects the building to the farmhouse. Running straight back from the rear left wall is a Flemish bond brick wall with limestone coping and regularly spaced pilaster buttresses, which incorporates a late 19th-century privy. After approximately 20 meters, this wall ramps down to a lower level and returns to enclose a garden, featuring a pyramidal capped pier in the right corner. The building is included for its group value.
