Description
This is a 19th-century outbuilding located to the east of Southwood. It features a lofted outside kitchen constructed from rubble stone, with squared cornerstones and a grouted asbestos roof. At the north end, there is a stone stack. On the west side, there is a ground floor door to the right, which has painted stone voussoirs above a cambered head. The south end has outside steps leading to a loft door, which is topped with a brick elliptical-arched head and surrounded by a rubble parapet. The east side of the building faces a small stone-walled enclosure and includes one ground floor sash window with stone voussoirs and a keystone, along with a vent loop to the left.
Attached to the northwest corner is a short linking range that connects to the northeast corner of Southwood. This range has a whitewashed stone wall with two openings: to the right, there is a cambered brick arch leading to a small lean-to store, and in the center, a broader, taller painted brick depressed arch with a keystone opens into a short chamber that features a corbelled stone roof and a bread oven at the rear. The roof of this range is grouted and gabled behind the front wall, with the bread oven appearing as a semi-circular projection at the north end.
At the southwest corner, there is a whitewashed rubble low wall with rough piers that frame the entry to a small yard situated between the house and the outside kitchen.
