Description
Quarry House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof and features brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan with an outshut and stands two storeys tall with an attic, originally having five windows but now displaying a four-window range.
The entrance has a timber lintel above a six-panelled door, of which four panels are glazed, and is sheltered by a timber porch added around 1930, also with a stone slate roof. There are two mid-19th century canted bay windows with sash frames, and timber lintels over early 20th century three-light and two-light casements, with three blocked windows and one blocked doorway to the left. The roof includes two gabled dormers, with the main roof gabled to the right and half-hipped to the left. The ridge and right end stacks feature an early 18th century moulded brick design.
To the left of the front, there is a mid-20th century extension with limestone rubble walling and a tile roof. The original outshut at the rear left has undergone significant alterations in the mid-20th century. There is also a two-bay block from the 18th century with a half-hipped roof to the right of the outshut, which contains a late 17th century to early 18th century twelve-panelled door. Adjacent to this is another mid-20th century extension built in a similar style. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
